In the interest of public outreach and transparency, the Board of Directors would like to advise residents of Westlake Municipal District No. 1 (Westlake MUD No. 1) regarding the ongoing waterline rehabilitation project.

Due to the age and condition of the current pipes, the district has elected to replace them with new pipes. This will be done in phases and will take several years to complete. Currently, the district is beginning with Phase 1.

In Phase 1, the district engineer plans to “bore” all the waterlines and abandon the existing appurtenances. The following streets will be worked on in phase one:

  • Village Chase Dr

  • Windy Meadow Dr

  • Coppervine Ln

  • Westbluff Dr

  • Lake Hollow Ln

  • Windy Knoll Dr

  • West Meadow Dr

  • Trendwest Dr

  • Blindlake Dr

  • Whiteback Dr

  • Foxlake Dr

  • Brushy Creek Cir

  • Mission Creek Cir

How will this impact me as a resident in the construction area?

You will see and hear construction throughout the day, but the construction limits should allow for traffic to flow. Contractors will leave the construction areas free of any debris on a daily basis. Door tags will be distributed to affected homes prior to any required water disconnection. The water service should only be impacted for the day of service to the line segment that serves the affected residences.

What is Being Replaced?

Due to the age and deterioration of the older pipes, the facilities that will be replaced include the water mains, flushing valves (fire hydrants), gate valves, and the water line taps up to the meters. Residential water meters will be replaced as needed. All areas damaged due to construction will be repaired or replaced, including resowing grass in yards and concrete sidewalks.

What is the Procedure?

Once the utility lines are marked, the contractor will set up necessary bore pits and perform the water line bores or directional drills for that day. If not completed in one day, the bore pits will be covered with boards, then backfilled with dirt once completed. As various sections of the water line system are installed, the contractor will perform the necessary testing for water quality, safety, and the longevity of the new pipes. After the line is installed in place, the contractor will provide the taps and reconnect service to the residents. Once the new service taps are connected, the disturbed areas may be resodded, established, and repaired.
