The Westlake Municipal Utility District No. 1 Board of Directors held an educational open house at the Westlake Volunteer Fire Department station on Saums Road on October 15. The Board and District consultants were on hand to answer residents’ questions related to the bond proposal which will be on the ballot November 5th.

Residents who attended were able to discuss the upcoming maintenance needs of the District’s water infrastructure with representatives from BGE, the District’s engineering consultant. The District operates a freshwater plant, multiple wastewater lift stations and a wastewater treatment facility. Westlake MUD also utilizes about 25 miles of underground pipes to meet the District’s water and wastewater needs. Engineers were available to discuss the District’s Capital Improvement Plan, which details the needed maintenance and upgrades facing the District over the next 15 years.

Community members could also speak with the District’s Financial Advisor, Masterson Advisors about the District’s financial plans and the impact the $17 million bond proposal will have on their finances if approved by voters in November. At this time, the District does not anticipate an increase in the tax rate as a result of the bond authorization for at least the next ten years.

The District’s attorney was available to visitors to discuss the language that will appear on the ballot in November. Inframark, the District’s operator, was also on hand to discuss basic operations not related to the bond such as billing and water line maintenance.

Documents provided at the open house as well as a virtual tour of the event are posted below. Residents are encouraged to review the documents and submit any follow-up questions about the proposed bond funding via this website’s Contact Us page.
